The owners of a prestigious residence in Beloeil, on the South Shore, contacted our team after hearing persistent scratching in the ceiling of the adjoining double garage and finding feces in the shed located at the back of the wooded lot. Beloeil, an upscale residential town neighboring Saint-Constant and Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, is characterized by large wooded lots and neat constructions where owners pay particular attention to the appearance and maintenance of their property. The presence of dense hedges, abundant gardens, streams on the edge and residual forest around the property encourages the seasonal movement of rats from the surrounding natural areas. Thorough inspection of a large property
The inspection covered the entire property: attached double garage, landscaped garden shed, space under the covered rear gallery, full foundation perimeter and wooded edge at the back of the lot. The technicians identified the presence of Norway rats that had established an active burrow in the wooded embankment adjacent to the shed, accessible from an area with little traffic. Regularly used passageways ran along the base of the cedar fence to a breach under the shed door, where the wood at the bottom of the frame had been gradually eaten away. In the garage, grouped droppings and the beginning of an elaborate nest with pieces of torn insulation indicated recent occupancy, probably related to the heat released by the water heater installed in this space. The rodent infestation inspection provided a comprehensive plan of the hotspots and priority areas to be treated, while assessing the potential risks of spreading to the living spaces of the main house. The absence of traces in the house itself made it possible to limit the intervention to the annex buildings and the outer perimeter.
Targeted treatment with pet management
The presence of two dogs on the property has guided the choice of methods towards devices that are completely safe for pets. The treatment was mainly based on quick-release mechanical traps placed inside the garage and shed, in closed animal-resistant boxes that were perfectly integrated into the spaces concerned. Secure, double-locking bait stations were discreetly anchored along the street-side foundation and at the back of the grounds, in areas inaccessible to visiting dogs and children. The outer burrow was treated directly with a rodenticide grain inserted into a tube driven into the galleries, an effective technique that confines the product inside the underground network without the risk of diffusion into the environment. Two follow-up visits over ten days confirmed the total cessation of activity in all the buildings concerned. Sealing, seasonal prevention and annual follow-up
The caulking of the entry points included the complete repair of the shed frame bottom with treated wood and a brushed aluminum door bottom seal, the sealing of the pipe penetrations in the garage with compacted steel wool and rodent-resistant sealant, as well as the reinforcement of the foundation joint on the wooded edge side. Homeowners received personalized recommendations tailored to their property type, including removing bird feeders during the frost period to remove a source of attraction, airtight storage of fertilizers and gardening products in rigid plastic containers with locked lids, and regular pruning of plants and shrubs in direct contact with buildings. A seasonal pest prevention plan was proposed to them to ensure a systematic inspection each autumn before the first cold weather.
