A logistics warehouse manager located in the industrial zone of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, on the South Shore, called on our team of certified exterminators after discovering American cockroaches in the area of the loading docks and in the employees’ break room. The American cockroach, which is larger than the German cockroach, is often introduced into warehouses via imported goods or handling equipment from other facilities. Inspection in an industrial environment
Inspecting a logistics warehouse presents particular challenges related to the size of the premises, the presence of many pallets and storage areas, and the loading docks that provide permanent entry points for pests from outside. Our technician carried out a methodical inspection starting with the loading docks, the spaces under the pallets, the mechanical rooms and the break room. Sticky traps were deployed at regular intervals along the walls and in the transition areas between the outside and the inside. The inspection revealed a significant concentration of American cockroaches around the docks, with a progression to the break room via a ventilation duct. Signs of presence were also detected in the office area adjacent to the warehouse. Treatment adapted to the industrial context
The processing protocol for a logistics warehouse differs significantly from that applied in a residential or commercial food context. In storage areas and around docks, a combination of reinforced monitoring sticky traps and residual insecticide spraying were used in areas not accessible to people during treatment. The ventilation ducts identified as migration routes were subject to a specific treatment based on bait gel at the entrance and exit. The break room was treated in the evening after closing with bait gel applied to every corner of the kitchen and cabinets. Port of Entry Control and IPM Program
In a warehouse with active loading docks, controlling entry points is a constant challenge. We recommended and partially implemented several exclusion measures: installing sealing brushes on the dock doors, sealing cracks in the exterior walls of the dock area, checking the ventilation ducts for leaks, and sealing the gaps around the pipes in the break room. These measures are part of an integrated pest management (IPM) approach, which combines curative treatment, physical exclusion and continuous monitoring. Results and long-term commitment
Follow-up two weeks after treatment showed a drastic reduction in the American cockroach population around the docks and a complete absence of activity in the break room and offices. Additional treatment was carried out in two areas of the warehouse where light residual activity had been detected. At the next follow-up, conducted a month later, a full inspection of the warehouse revealed no signs of an active infestation. The management was particularly satisfied with the discretion of our intervention and the quality of the documentation provided, which allows it to meet the requirements of its clients in terms of pest management.
